The CRP test will let you know how much inflammation is present in your body. If you have an elevated CRP level, this could be a sign of underlying inflammatory conditions and increased cardiovascular risk. This marker will also be raised if you have an infection.

CRP is a protein that is released by the liver in response to tissue damage or inflammation, meaning that concentration rises when there is more inflammation in the body. CRP levels are used as an indicator of underlying inflammatory conditions or infections.
You should consider testing if:

  • You are at risk for chronic inflammatory infections including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or vasculitis
  • You are at risk for Crohn’s disease
  • You are at risk for bowel disorders
